Western Karate Union Competition November 2014

Sunday 17th November saw 3 junior members competing at the Western Union Karate Competition held in Western Supermare. Our three competitors were Alex James, Florence Bradley and Ashley To.

Florence Bradley was up first and had a bye first round seeing her through to the semi finals. Florence's first fight was a tidy clean fight and won comfortably 4-0. Reaching the final Florence had a good a fighter and had to be aggressive Winning the early two points Florence was on a barrage of attacks but managed to hold out and take the win 3-0 and or first gold!

Next up was Alex James who had a large category, however had a bye first round. Reaching the quarter final Alex won against a very aggressive smaller opponent and taking the win 3-0. Reaching the semis Alex took another win comfortably 5-0 sending her through the final and winning our second gold of the day 4-0.

Last up was Ashley who hasn't actually trained fully for the last month due to exams however still entered and took a good first round 4-0. His second round was much scrappier from both opponents however being the stronger fight he took the win by flags 3-0 sending him to the final! In the final Ashley came up against a very tall stronger opponent. After taking a hard hit Ashley lost the first point. Chasing for the point back Ashley lost another hard punching point causing him to not wanting to attack. In the last ten seconds realising he needs the points Ashley attacked and scored a point on the buzzer which wasn't given but taking a well deserved silver!

The comp was very well organised and I thank Wendy for a great comp. The standard was good and competition hard however the squad stepped up to the plate, however a lot of positives and some negatives to work on. Well done everyone! Sensei Sat
