Banzai Open, Germany 2014

Saturday 20th saw Khalsa Champions Fran Hardcastle competing in the Junior 16-18 category. This comp started and finished with obstacles. Fran went to the comp with a stress fracture to the back, and was told to pull out. After several consultations we took the advice still to travel and decide on the day.

The day of the comp arrived and it was clear to see Fran had issues when pre warming however decided t compete. First round Fran had a very tactical fighter who took an early 2-0 lead. Fran had not looked in any major issue at this stage but frustrated about distance. Once her distance was good she pulled the fight back to win 5-4 and score on the buzzer. Second round Fran changed and was much slower, Fran lost the first point, levelled the second to 1-1 but the pain endured and lost 1-3. Fran was in the final repochage for bronze but could not fight as the pain got worse having been given pain killers by the medical team. That said Fran performed very well in the first fight and once she finds fitness again will be back on the matt and hopefully medalling again. The priority now is rest and fix the issue so it doesn't occur. Well done Fran.

On the other side Sophie Santillo competed in Birmingham and claimed Gold. Good start to the season with a full report to follow.
