USA Open September 2013

Sunday 22/09/13 saw two A Squad members in Alex James and Fran Hardcastle competing in the USA Open in Dudley.

First up was Alex James who had a bye first round, Won Quarter finals 7-2, Semis 9-1, lost final 1-7. Alex fought fantastically however her distance was wrong in the final and although some points were dubious that fact remained we didn't do enough in the final to win. That said Alex still medalled and performed magnificently.

Next up was Fran Hardcastle who had a bye first round, won 5-3 Quarter finals, won 9-3 Semi Finals and won 4-3 Finals. Fran took to the Open next and again had a bye first round Won Quarters 4-2 Semis 3-0 and final 4-1 taking her second Gold of the day.
Fran performed with heart today with knee injuries, feet blistering and swollen eye after her opponent poked her as they went in. Nearly being pulled out Fran fought with courage and determination and again proved she can hold her own against some very good category fighters!

Sensei Sat commented "Both girls did the club magnificently proud today and showed courage and will power!!! Obviously there were things that again needed tweeking however neither girls had been on the mat for almost 2 months so mat experience was much needed today!! Well done again to the girls, instructors and students from the club that help make the success of the team!"
