United Styles Association Competition May 2013

First to compete was Alex who had a bye in the first round and then won 2-0 in the next round. In the final Alex came up against a good fighter and although she piled on the pressure and attacked aggressively the points did not come her way resulting in a loss of 1-2. Alex received a silver medal for her efforts and Khalsa's first medal of the day. Fantastic fighting today Alex, well done.

Next to compete was Josh who was eager to repeat his win of a couple of weeks at WKU. Josh had a bye in the first round and then went on to repeat his success of reaching the final with wins of 4-1 and 5-2 before losing 1-7 in the final to a fast and agile opponent. Josh claimed a silver medal for his efforts. Well done Josh for reaching your second successive final in a couple of weeks.

Next onto the mat was Tom who was unlucky to meet the winner of Josh's category in the first round. Although Tom fought well he was beaten 0-8 by the eventual winner of this category. Well done Tom it was a tough fight but you gave your all and never gave up.

Last to compete was Fran who had been training and coaching the juniors all morning and was then suddenly called on to compete. Fran won her first fight comfortably 6-3 to reach the final but unfortunately due to a knee injury meant she went into the final not at her best.Fran fought fantastically with some great techniques whilst struggling with her injury to win 8-2 and take the gold medal. Fran had to withdraw from the open category because of her injury.

Well done to everyone who competed today, there were fantastic performances and great team spirit. A big thank you to Fran for training and coaching the juniors.

Sensei Sat commented "The club has been so busy of late, and every weekend has been very busy teaching or competing. That said a few Junior Squad members and Cadet member Fran competed on there own and performed fantastically well. To take 4 competitors and come back with 3 medals is amazing and a huge tribute to the dedication and will power to the squad!! A huge thank you again to Fran for coaching, Debbie for organizing, Richard for photos and Ant for driving the squad. Team work has been fantastic and well done to everybody!"
