East England Championships 2013

Sunday 17th March saw our only competitor in Sophie Santillo competing in the East England Championships in Clacton on Sea. Sophie was entered into two categories and won her individual category against two strong upcoming opponents 8-0 and 9-3, taking her first GOLD of the day! Sophie was then entered to fight in the Senior category and won her first fight against a strong opponent 9-4. Having reached the final Sophie met an excellent England International member in Stephanie Thorndick. Sophie took the early lead but Steph's quality meant she quickly clawed back two points. Sophie back in the attack knicked a quick point and levelled the fight 2-2 which went to judges decision. Both went 1-1 and head judge called Stephanie the winner. Both fighters fought exceptional and good to see teammates respecting each other but still wanting the win!! Silver for Sophie Gold for Steph!! Well done girls!!!

Sensei Sat commented " Well done again to Sophie for travelling on her lonesome to Clacton, coaching others and still winning!! Sophie is a inspiration to us all and is slowly but surely reaching her goals!!! To draw with such an amazing fast fighter in Stephanie is a great result and shows she is slowly progressing!! Lovely to see Toyakwai girls in the final!! Well done to Soph and Steph!!"
