Khalsa Champions Attended the 4th Annual Veras Academy Summer Camp!

Featuring Sensei Raphael Veras, Sensei Greg Francis, Sensei Moira Barber and Sensei Helen Pree.

On Friday, the 8th of June, two members of Khalsa Champions attended the 4th Annual Summer Camp, hosted by Sensei Raphael Veras. Noah Allen was first to join at the beginning of the camp and was joined by our British Gold Medalist, Sophie Santillo, on the Saturday.

After enduring some pretty challenging traffic on the Friday, Noah arrived only slightly late to join in on the session already underway. The camp was absolutely packed with a nice split between juniors and seniors (probably about 30 of each). Raphael put the group through a nice warm up over the space of the next two hours, which was only a modest indicator of what was to come over the next two days.

After a chilly night in the caravan, Noah returned to training for a full on day on the Saturday. The routine was a combination of Kata, Kihon and Kumite. After the morning session, the group de-camped to the swimming pool whilst we went to collect Sophie from Ashford International train station. More sessions followed, topped off by Sensei Greg Francis leading the group (including some parents) in his famous "Fit to Fight" class. There were a lot of red faces at the end of this, but needless to say, Khalsa participants Sophie and Noah led the lines for the club and looked good doing so.

After a Saturday night BBQ hosted by Raphael and Patricia (which had some of the most amazing meat!!) Sunday morning came quickly! Sophie was involved in most of the senior kumite demonstration and training and represented the club very well. On the Junior side, Noah had a fantastic work out and bonding with the Veras Academy kids. The day ended with a team fight off, in which Noah was nicked by Luan Veras, but ended up with his team on the winning side!

Chris Allen commented: "I know Sat will have more to say about the camp, but I thought it appropriate to personally thank Raphael Veras, Greg Francis, Moira Barber and Helen Pree, as well as Patricia Veras and the rest of the Veras Academy Family. I am so grateful for the relationship that the school has with Sensei Sat, as this has given us the opportunity to develop friendships and camaraderie outside of our own club. Raphael went out of his way to welcome us and we are grateful for that!"

Sensei Sat commented "This course is a very well organized course with some of England’s top instructors/competitors. To have this chance to train with the best is fantastic. The two representatives we sent had a fantastic time learnt a lot and gained a good insight to different ways of fighting. My thanks goes Raphael Veras, Greg Francis, Helen Pree and Moira."
