Swiss Open Championships - 2012

Saturday the 25/02/12 saw Sophie Santillo representing Khalsa Champions in the Swiss Open.

This was only Sophie's fifth international competition and with no coach and traveling alone this showed Sophie's character.

First fight Sophie fought a swiss opponent and right from the start dictated the fight. Scoring mainly hand techniques and a fantastic kick Sophie took the win 8-0. Great start for first round.

Sophie's second fight was against the national Swiss champion. Sophie took the early lead and dominated the fight, leading 5-3 with a fantastic hook kick. The dying seconds Sophie committed to a Kazami Gyak, and her opponent with a Gyak to the face leveling the score 5-5. Sophie's opponent took the point and although the fight was dominated by Sophie the judges went 2-3 to the local girl.

Sensei Sat commented "This was a great achievement for Sophie. We have changed our strategy and game plan and it is proving successful. What Sophie has achieved this weekend on her own with no coach is a fantastic achievement, whilst still nursing and 90% fit ankle injury! It will not be long before Sophie reaches her goals, as her commitment and love for the sport is second to none!

Well done on behalf of all the club and instructors!!!"
