Scottish Open April 2012

Saturday morning saw Sensei Sat and Sophie traveling at the break of dawn to catch an early flight to Scotland. This was going to be a very busy, long and tiring day for both coach and competitor. On arrival we signed, weighed and checked in.

Sophie was entered in both her weight category and the open, and being the youngest in this category Sophie had to make a stamp on her authority if she was going to win, especially with the new scoring system.

Sophie's first round was a bye followed by second fight, where Sophie dominated the fight taking the win 10-0, taking her to the final. The final was much more cagey however Sophie found her range and scored 3 consecutive gyaks taking the Gold and the win 3-0.
The open category was very busy and Sophie had no bye first round, however her opponent was disqualified for not wanting to fight. Sophie was pushed through to the quarters against a strong Scottish girl and won 3-0, sending Sophie to the semi's. In the semi's both girls were really strong and aggressive with so many strong clashes of gyaks both girls could have won, but ended 0-0, and judges went with our opponent, leaving Sophie with a bronze.

Sensei Sat commented " This was a very hard task flying so early and fighting girls on the home turf, but Sophie stepped up to the mark, and did not disappoint. This was a great effort for the next day! The positive result was we won our category and medalled in the open without dropping a point!! Well done Sophie on being Scottish Open Champion"
