The 6th Annual Chojinkai Children’s & Cadets Championships – Penrith, Cumbria

1 Competitor, 1 Gold

On Sunday, 4th March, Khalsa Champions sent one student up North to compete in the 6th Annual Chojinkai Children's & Cadets Championships in the Lake District of Cumbria. Noah Allen and family travelled up North to enjoy the beautiful Lake District and experience a competition with competitors that we do not usually encounter in our competition circuit. This competition was well organized and had around 350 competitors.

Noah was entered into his usual category, but also entered the Open Category that had all sizes and belts in the Under 10's. Both of the categories started at the same time and Noah found himself running from one mat to the other throughout the rounds.

To start things off, we were drawn into a group of 23 boys for under 6th Kyu. Noah had 5 rounds of fighting, winning 5-0, 3-2, 5-3, 3-0 and in the Final 4-3. There were a few good fighters here and Noah had to work hard to be sure he got his points. In the end, Noah showed a lot of power in this category and was a clear and deserved winner.

In the Open Category, we were in a group of 20 boys and got a first round bye. Noah started off on fire, stopping the first fighter with an 8-0 score-line. Up next was an awkward fighter that was hard to engage. As a result, Noah was forced to take the fight to his opponent and looked on his way to the semi-finals before giving up a late penalty for contact to the face. This sent it to the judges, and whilst we had 2 of the three seated judges, the head judge went with the opponent and we went out in the quarterfinals. Well done to Noah for giving it a go and looking like he could win it. Next time Noah!

Sensei Sat commented "This was a great result for the club and for Noah! For one student to go alone and compete through eight rounds from mat to mat, and come out with this result is fantastic. Noah is maturing as a fighter and having currently become the new English Champion, and is now showing his true capabilities. A great result and VERY WELL DONE!! And well done to coach Chris for getting Noah to the final!!!!"
